Dan May was drafted in by Production Designers Gary Freeman and Dylan Cole to help create the Disney castle featured in the film Maleficent. The film is an unusual adaptation of Disney's 1959 animated classic Sleeping Beauty, portraying the story from the perspective of Diaval, the villain. Dan helped with the design and modelling of the castle’s overall layout, and in the visualisation of several interior and exterior sets including the scene where Davial flies to Aurora’s rescue. He also 3D boarded ideas for the final scenes of the film feeding into both the Previz and VFX pipelines. Dan has since gone on to work with Gary again on the upcoming Jungle Book for Warner Bros Studios and a new Tomb Raider reboot.
